Stu The Kid! The baby of the party. But don't let his babyface fool you. He's a killer on the drums and easily out guns most drummers any of us have seen or played with before. And he's only gona get better, with his current ventures into tertiary level percussion at Stellenbosch.
Fagmieda bester

Hailing from Cape Town, Fagmieda an amazingly talented vocalist in her own right. Having built her own career as a solo artist and vocalist, most recently culminating in a 12 month stint performing across the Spanish Canary and Baltic Islands, she is now a fixture with us.

The crazy big brother! Leighton is the founder and elder statesman of the group, conceptualizing most of it before taking any members on board. Basic classical guitar training in his youth lead to being a closet musician for years before venturing into live music. And after several attempts - and heartbreaks - Jakkal The Bones is his most successful project to date. And we're just getting started.
GODWIN MeYER

The Impov Man. Godwin is a seasoned guitarist and accomplished vocalist in his own right, having previously worked on a wide variety of projects. One of the two founding members of this ensemble, he knits together our sound with his rhythmic solos and fills.

Originally conceived by Leighton as his latest attempt at putting together a rock band to express his ever-changing musical taste. He recruited cousin Godwin Meyer on lead guitar in 2017 and they performed as an acoustic duo for some time.
In late 2017 other cousin Mark Fowler was pulled aboard in a last minute decision to enter a jazz battle of the bands - along with temporary drummer, Guido Angelucci. Shortly after this, Stuart came in to cement drums and complete the four piece.
Jakkal The Bones is predominantly a rock band that does covers across several genres - from RnB to Pop-Jazz to Folk and of course Rock. We also perform severel original pieces and are always expanding in all of these areas.
We're primarily located in Paarl and play throughout the greater Cape Town area.
sO WHAT'S WITH THE NAME?
So, why Jakkal The Bones? Well, it’s a bit of a tribute to my dad. See, Randal Leukes was a musician as well - a fantastic funk/jazz fusion bassist - and gigged on weekends for the few years I had him around. And in his youth, he was given the nickname Jakkals (jackal in Afrikaans). A name that’s sort of outlived him and still sticks to me a bit in certain crowds.
That’s about it! Jakkal(s) is as much in my bones as the music is for my cousins and I. And who doesn’t love a cool skull design? 😉

Mark Fowler

Our jack of all trades! Mark can jump fluently between drums, vocals and guitar, but part of the founding of the band on bass guitar. He currently resides in South Korea but is still an ever willing asset to the band, and is sure to jump on stage with us anytime he's back home visiting.
Matteo Angelucci

Matteo is the lead guitarist of The Flamels, and is a frequent contributor to Jakkal the Bones

Guido was the band drummer in it's early days and helped get the ball rolling on this project.
